Automatic Door Inspection |

|
This is another important inspection that is done for safety. Most insurance companies require an automatic pedestrian door to be inspected annually for safety. You will also receive a maintenance report that will help keep your unit running smoothly, keep your customers perception of your establishment high and reduce "down time" that may occur without these annual safety inspections on your automatic doors. This inspection is a must for loss prevention from lawsuits. When any injury occurs from these, the first thing they ask is "When was the last AAADM (American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers) Safety Inspection performed". These automatic door safety inspections are steps taken to reduce exposure, by all of the major retail outlets that have automatic pedestrian doors in use. If there is no annual inspection performed by a qualified safety inspector, then the company who has their retail store there is at a high risk to be sued for negligence. When these claims are proven they are always rewarded a much higher monetary settlement then accidental injury or product failure related claims. Due to regulations set forth by the ADA (American Disabilities Act) there are guidelines to set your pressures for opening doors in general, yet there is no set testing proceedure, that is recognized nationally (to test the openings for the 5 lbs of opening pressure you are required to maintain). The problem is that there are different speeds of opening the doors and different locations on the door that you can place your intrument that no 2 people performing these tests will have the same results. AAADM has specific guidelines to check these requirements. The life safety codes are quite different, they require not more then 15 lbs of turning force, 30 lbs of force to start the doors moving and 15 lbs to continue the swing. These are some of the things that will be tested along with the safety sensors, closing speed and closing force.
